Scott and I made it the 74 miles to Witches Dance and, what a 74 miles it was.

Now, as most of you now there was very severe weather that hit just north of Scott and I. Some of the people we have been talking to had said that Natchez Trace was the only way to get in and out of these areas. We had been seeing a downed tree or branch here and there, but nothing really prepared us for what we saw today.

The down trees were becoming more frequent and than we hit about mile 203 on the Trace. From mile marker 203 to 215 the area was devastated. Trees looked like twigs snapped in half or blown all the way over, for as far as the eye could see. It appears that the trees and debris in this area will be left there, but it makes the place look like a giant kindling box. Hopefully this place stays wet enough, so that it doesn’t catch on fire, like Texas.

We made it here to Witches Dance, which is very loud. The cicadas have hatched and all we can hear is the whirling sound they make. Withes Dance is name that because it was the place where witches would dance. Whenever a witched touched the ground the grass would never grow there ever again. Secretly I am hoping that the witches decide to have a dance party tonight. That way, if they are here maybe they’ll have some great food with them.

After our 74 miles today Scott and I are both very tired and looking forward to an early night.
