This is the day that never ends…

Well, okay, that’s a slight exaggeration. We did get to a campground eventually, Lockhart State Park in fact, but instead of doing 34 miles like we anticipated we ended up doing a little bit more than 65 miles.

The day started out on an awesome note! A very nice couple also camping at Blanco State Park offered to make us breakfast before we went on our way. So we had amazing omelets with a bowl of cereal and great conversation. It was really nice to be able to talk about the trip and just travel in general.

Our route was hilly for the first 28 miles or so into Wimberley, which was a very cute little Texas town.  The town was very touristy with tons of little shops and Bed and Breakfasts. Right after Wimberley we did 2 miles uphill out of town and then stopped to call the place we were planning on staying for the night. On our map it said that there was a gas station that we could camp behind about 7 miles out of Wimberley, so we called ahead to verify that we could get their early. Turns out that nobody can camp there, and never could.  Oy.. So we turn around and head back into Wimberley and stop at an RV Park we passed on the way out of town.  Turns out there is NO camping in Wimberley, except for that they allow bikers to camp behind the emergency services building at the west end of town.  Decisions, bike 4 miles back to the Emergency Services or go ahead to the next available camping at Lockhart State park in 35 miles.  Anybody who knows Audrey knows the answer already, we went ahead.

After the climb out of Wimberley it wasn’t too bad either except for the heavy traffic between Wimberley and Kyle. We had rolling hills with some down and a lot of flat near the end.  But we were pretty tired after the long day and the campsite was a definite relief when we finally got here.

Now I’m updating while Audrey set up the tent and started dinner.

And afterwards we need to decide where to go tomorrow.  Since we made two days goal today, we were planning on a big day from here, but now we are second-guessing that and may make a short day.  We’ll see how it goes.
